We went for a vintage feel to it but keeping it modern.  The antique faces and figurines are mainly cheeky add-ons but we like them, we’re cheeky like that.  We selected some of our more recent works to be featured on the top of the page at all times, scrolling automatically through them with a fancy billboard effect.  You can contact us be clicking on the contact button on the top and the form should bounce to your disposal post haste.

There a quite a few subtle effects going on around the site, patterns and backgrounds play a big role in the layout, keen eyes can see the clever use at times.  These are the things we do for our clients, cool stuff like this. If you’re looking, we’re cooking so get in touch.

Reason being, for a web designer, it’s a whole heap of unnecessary tweaking to sites so they look decent while being viewed in this godforsaken piece of software.  Surprisingly high, the statistics show that there’s still, a larger than you’d think, portion of users still running this version of Microsoft’s browser but since 1. March,  Google and Youtube said they’d start phasing out support for it, numbers continue to diminish.

Now Facebook announced that their live chat won’t work with IE6, prompting more users who still rely on Explorasaurus to check their email, to make the switch to new modern browsers (or simply update IE to version 8).

For a long time it’s been the tradition for web designers to hack out a sub styling sheet to suit the old bugger (and its cousin version 7 for that matter) but after talking to many webbies, some have taking the stance to leave it in its current state and not compensate for ill behaviors, thus rendering the website, quite quirky and funny looking.

Wether that’s warranted or not, is up to the designer and the project at hand.  We here at Gasfabrik, leave the poor bastard out to fry here on Gasfabrik.com…

If you’re reading this using IE 7 or older, go ahead ad update post haste or try something new like Firefox, Google’s Chrome or even Opera.  These are modern browsers that’ll enrich your web experience beyond what you’ve experienced with Mr. Oldasaurus 6.

I’ve been meaning to update our little patch here in the interweb for quite some time, give it a new layout, new design and throw some cool new tricks in there. It’s taken a few revisions, a few bites into the laptop, a few scrapped ideas… you get the drift here.

In the end I guess it’s “just” a matter of throwing it out there, however “not perfect” it is and however “not the absolute cutting edge” it is.  It’s a matter of decision and sticking to it.  We web designers have an analytical bunch to impress, namely, other web designers.  You want the respect, you want the kudos and all that.

We all get stuck in position like that, once in a while.  We just got to learn that if you’ve already spent so much time on it, it must be half decent and it’s time to let go, make a decision and stick with it.  Most of the times, you can always come back to it, tweak it etc.

So, sitting here in the sunlight in Czech Republic, I write to you and say, that I’ll definitely make a decision on the Gasfabrik web design… soon, I promise.

Gasfabrik has handled Hera Björk’s online presence since 2007 with both her official site and myspace design.  Her 2010 design has her social sites integrated into the main website and she can update Facebook and Twitter along with her own site, all in one spot.
